My Forever Home....At Last!

I wanted to share the good news with everyone that has been following my story I am proud to announce I have found my 'Forever Home'. My foster family was saddened that I was going to be leaving them and they did their fair share of crying at times; however, they were thrilled I had found a 'Forever Home' and they wanted to make the best out of my remaining days with them. I have to share this story with you so everyone can realize what a great foster family I had and how amazing the people in the rescue group truly are. The evening before my departure my foster mom wanted to have a 'Best Wishes, Sending Off Party' for me so can you believe it they baked me a cake! Of course as you can see in the photo the doggy friendly portion of the cake was the non-icing side! That night we all had cake together (and boy was it delicious) and everyone said such nice things to me and wished me the best it was great.

The following morning Saturday, September 5th we all went for my last walk around the block in Newton. My foster mom kept calling us the 'Trifecta' during our walk because she says Pops, Dee-Dee and I are three beautiful pointers. We then departed for our trek down to Marlton, NJ with my foster parents to meet my new family. As you can see from the photo it was a long 2+ hour drive and my foster mom and I fell asleep for most of the ride! When we arrived in Marlton my foster dad woke us up.

Much to my surprise we finally arrived in Marlton. My adoptive family was comprised of many individuals including a new mom, dad, son, a 4-legged brother and a 4-legged sister whom were formerly adopted by the family as well. All I can say is boy all three of us are so lucky! My new family already updated the EGSP Rescue Group on my status and my mom said I fit right in with the family, it was a smooth transition, they were already falling in love with me, and they will continue sending periodic updates to the group.

I am very lucky to have found my forever home; however, I did want to take the time out to thank all of the volunteers from the rescue that made this possible. Without all their hard work and determination to find an old gal her forever home who knows what the outcome would have been. Having the surgery and finally receiving the medical attention I needed for my ailments has made me feel years youger and I can do anything now! I know fostering and dealing with the sad losses and outcomes must be hard at times; however, I want to speak on behalf of all the rescue dogs that have passed through EGSP Rescue and say all of us dogs really appreciate your efforts and we cant thank you enough for giving us a second chance at life! Bye for now.....Pegster!

My Thoughts on Camping.......

As you all know I had my first opportunity camping two weekends ago and there is only one word to describe camping with my foster parents and foster siblings - AWESOME! Dee-Dee, Pops and I were loving life as the three main ingredients of camping are our favorite aspects of life sleeping, eating AND hiking! I was unsure at first if I would enjoy camping you know 'roughing it' but when my foster mom and dad told me we would be camping in style, a 5th wheel camper with two beds for us dogs, I was like 'count me in'!

We had the same routine pretty much every day we woke mommy up at 6am, went bye-bye, ate our breakfast, went hiking, ate lunch, went for a walk around the campground, ate dinner, and then relaxed in the evening by the campfire. I have to tell you my two favorite parts were eating (naturally) and hiking. My mommy believes if we are good dogs while her and daddy eat we can try some 'people food'! My ultimate favorite was SMORES (obviously without the chocolate) they were delicious!

As for hiking we took it slow the first day mommy did not want to push me too much, since my leg is still healing, so we went on a trail along the Delaware River the scenery was beautiful. The second day we went to the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and we went on a more challenging 2.5 mile hike! I wont go into all the details of the hike but I will describe my favorite part. We were walking along the trail and I heard a loud noise that I had never heard before. We then began descending a bunch of stairs and the air started to get a little cooler! Just as I stepped down from the last stair I saw the most beautiful site but I did not know what it was as I had never seen this before. I asked my foster mom what it was and she said it was a 'waterfall'! We hung out at the waterfall for a while as Dee-Dee went wading in the water (once my leg heals 100% I think I may give wading a try!) and then we hiked the remainder of the trail and I really enjoyed myself. We eventually made it back to the truck and I was EXHAUSTED! Boy I never realized how out of shape I am! We drove back to the campground, ate dinner, sat by the fire and relaxed for the remainder of the evening. The following morning we packed up and headed back to Newton, NJ. I will never forget my 1st camping experience and I cant wait to go again!

Cancer Free!

I'm happy to report that my biopsy came back and it's benign...which means I'm cancer free! I don't even know what that means, but it must be good because everyone is excited and crying happy tears they tell me!

I had my surgery 4 days ago, and I've been to the vet 3 times since then, so it's a bummer, but I get to spend a lot of time at my Foster Aunt's house and she must not know how spoiled I am at home, because she does the same thing and gives me treats and toys all the time! A girl can get used to this treatment. She has 5 dogs at her house and I am friendly with all of them. Although, I must admit I enjoy being alone, as I am much too ladylike for their antics. Yesterday we had a BBQ and I just sat on my own blanket with my toy and my bone and watched them act like a bunch of crazies! They were jumping on the couch, running in the hallway and that's just not my thing. You can still have fun without acting like that...I was quite embarassed for them, although they didn't seem to mind...or did all the people laughing at them.

I'm healing very well. Dr. B removed about 4 or 5 of my sutures to relieve the pressure on my foot and keep the swelling down, but I'm healing really well. My foster parents are really good about monitoring me and keeping me on my rx's so that I can have a successful recovery.

So, for now, nothing too exciting to report while I'm in recovery, but I will check back in shortly with some updates...I just wanted to report the good news!

Quick Update

Hi All,

I'm really tired and groggy because I had my surgery today, but I just wanted to let everyone know that it all turned out okay! The vet said I did very well and she removed the whole tumor. She is sending it out for a biopsy to determine exactly what it is, so we'll know more in a few days. My leg is sore but it feels better already, I even got right in the vehicle with no help. My foster Mom says even though I'm tough, I have to take it easy and she's going to make me relax tonight. We're going to watch tv and she's going to massage my leg. Tomorrow, my foster Aunt is taking me to the vet to have 2 stitches removed, because they put a lot in and stitched it extra tight for safe measure. So, you can all expect to hear from me in a few days when I'm all recovered and running around!

Love,
Peggy Sue

The Day I was Sprung from the Shelter

Hi All,

My name is Peggy....I was rescued recently from a shelter where I was surrendered with my other GSP brother and sister. We had to go there first to get a start on our new lives. I'm a graceful old girl, everyone thinks I'm about 12-14 years old, but a lady never tells!

These nice volunteers came and took me and my brother, Otto (he has his own blog, too....you can visit it at www.egspcrpotto.blogspot.com) from the shelter and brought us straight to the vet....so I was happy to get out of the shelter, but not so happy about the vet part. We were hanging out in the truck with them, I just slept on the backseat the whole time, but my annoying little brother kept falling on the floor, stepping on me and trying to sit up front. He's blind, but it sure didn't stop him from moving around! Turns out, all he wanted was to sit in the front seat right in between the rescue girls. Then he was happy!

It turns out that I'm in not as good of shape as I look, I've got lyme disease and hookworm, but I'm getting treated for both and will make a full recovery. I did get all my shots and my nails clipped while I was at the vet and I cooperated. I did give everyone quite a scare because I have a large tumor on my leg that was never treated and thet vet suspected it was cancerous and possibly quite advanced. I had to have some tests done on it, and the good news is that it's not as bad as they thought. We won't know exactly until I have a biopsy done (I don't know what that means, but I don't think I'm going to like it!) so I'm going in for surgery on Thursday to have the tumor removed. I can't wait for that to happen...I've been walking around with this on my leg for a long time, and while I'm used to it, it's not comfortable at all. I will let my foster parents wrap it and put medicine on it because it feels so much better when they do. It prohibits me from running and jumping as much as I want, and I have lots of trouble going up and down stairs because of it, so as much as I'm scared of surgery, I am SO excited that the nice rescue people are going to help me have a better quality of life.

My foster Mom spoils me big time and I love it! I'm such a good girl though, I deserve it if I do say so myself. I am very lady like and haven't had any accidents or gotten in any trouble in the few days I've been here. My foster Mom calls me "Peggy Sue" and I wag my whole rear end in happiness. I'm glad that they saved me, I love being loved. I now know what I've been missing for a long time. I know my brother, Otto is happy to be in his foster home, and I can't wait for my sister, Whitney to get to her foster home next week, so she can see what it's like! My foster Dad is great, too...he wasn't even home from work 10 minutes on the day I arrived and he built me my very own ramp so that I can get up on my very own bed. The dogs here have their own bedroom that they even share with me! When I'm home alone, I just hang out by myself because the other dogs are downstairs in the basement...I think it's because they are trouble makers, I hear they like to eat the garbage and one of them loves to eat toothpaste! I am much too ladylike for that nonsense and just hang around.

The "other dogs" I live with are 2 other GSPs, a boy and a girl...they are both in "my age group" of semi-senior citizens...ha ha! I like both of them a lot, the boy is a little cranky and growls when I go near his bed, but I think sooner or later, he'll learn to respect his elders! I want to play with them and I try, but with this tumor on my foot, it's too painful so I can't wait until I'm all healed to run around. For an older girl who acts like a lady, don't let me fool you, I've got plenty of energy!

So, that's it for now. I will check back in next week after I'm all recovered with a full report!
